The following is a podcast from a qualified senior care provider, hurt, on the answers for elders radio show. Welcome to answers for elders radio everyone. I am here with Heather Lion from mbk Senior Living Mount Lake Terris Plaza. Heather, welcome to the program thank you. Thank you very much for having me. Susan, well, I’m really glad you’re here because I had the privilege of visiting your community not too long ago to the workshop there, and what a wonderful property that is, just been totally newly remodeled. Yes, thank you. Let me a little bit about I know you’re kind of a little bit not new to the industry, but you’re new to this community. So tell me a little bit about you know why you came here and what sets it apart. Well, that’s that’s great and it’s hard. I’ll try to keep it brief. I think I learned a long time ago that I just love being with people and I love trying to make a difference, trying to advocate for everybody. I think most of us need advocates, we need heroes in our life and people that support us, and I knew some folks that were at the Mounta Lake Tears Plaza community and with mbk senior living. HMM, and you know, just kind of stopped in and there I was and there was an opportunity and it was just too good to resist. Well, and it’s so interesting because you and I met back at the Ashi Mur’s walk right when we were broadcasting this last year. So it’s amazing that, you know, our lives have connected again and of course we have been really impressed with Mbk and great you know, I know that you guys are fairly new to the area and so a lot of people don’t know about right, you know, your company and and yet, you know, I think that there’s so many amazing things about your organization. Tell us a little bit about kind of the philosophies behind mbk. Yeah, I think one thing I like to share is that mbk senior living really is not new. It’s relatively new to Washington states, right, you know, just really being a part of the the state in the last couple of years. But MB CA sing your living has been in around for over twenty years and culture is, I think, component that is very unique in the industry that I’m that I feel with being part of the company. They’re very conscientious about, you know, being traditional, recognizing that we want to exceed the quality, service and expectations of those we serve. I think we have a different product. We encourage the activities, the fulfilling lifestyles and our residents and, of course, as needs evolved, we can help them with care changes. So it just, you know, it just it felt different when I walked in at when I walked in as a not a customer per se, but another professional, and that’ll different big testimony because I know we as as professionals, m we go to assisted living and senior living communities all over greater puget sound, I’m sure all the time. We have the opportunity we do. And you know, there’s something about when you, as a professional, walk into a community and there’s just this remarkable energy of difference and I don’t know how to explain it necessarily, but you know, I remember way back when, this is before I got in the industry, right, I was looking for assisted living for my mother MMM, and I know families go through, you know, they’re going on tours everywhere and they’re having to discern which is the best sales pitch for them, you know, because everybody has their own stick, right. So there’s a lot of families out there that I know are looking for those options for their senior loved one. And, you know, I didn’t even know where to begin. I didn’t know what questions to ask. I didn’t know what would be the best thing for my mom. I would looked at apartments and they kind of all look the same in my head, you know, because even though they were nice communities and they all charge assisted living different right, they do things, you know, there’s just such a difference is companies. But you know that the thing that really got me to make the choice, and I’m going to say it’s the same energy in your community, is I decided after the first day, right, that I’m not going to pay as much attention to what they have to tell me. I’m going to look at the attitudes of the seniors. That’s great, and I’m going to see, you know, where they you know, what’s kind of joy do. I see level of the resonance there, and when I did the workshop at Mbk MMM, I saw this amazing vibrants from your residence and I saw that same energy of, you know, happiness that’s great. That to me, spoke volumes about your community. Fantastic. I really love that you bring that up, Suzanne, and I have my own personal experience as well with a mother in law who who’s kind of run through the gamut of senior living in the last seventeen years, and sure with vascular dimension and and I agree with you. I think that in some ways, by having so many operatny, so many options out there, we can lose track of what really matters, which is how do I feel it’s okay to use your gut, you know, in fact, I think sometimes we’re so overstimulated by all the all the social media’s and all the places to learn more information that we can get caught up in that and we get so lost in the minutia. Exactly. Heather, what what I I see? Yes, that so we are speaking with heather lying in from mbk senior living, which is Mount Lake Terrace Plaza. Yes, and you guys have located in Montlake Terrace. We are correct. Tell me about where exactly you’re located. So we are. You know, I can give the address, of course, to thirty three hundred and three fifty eight avenue West, and that’s right across the street from the library, which is on fifty eight street. We’ve got the Veterans Park right next door to that. Nice, you know, and I think that’s something that makes us stand apart is, well, neighborhood. That’s the thing. It’s a neighborhood feel. You’re not in the middle of a busy street exactly. You’re not in the in the area of where there’s, you know, traffic or noise. It’s such a peaceful area of the only terrorist which very clients. So talking about assisted living, you know, one of the things that I think so many families out there are wanting to know about. You know, when’s the right time, right, you know, when we sit back and we think about you know, well, mom’s okay, but it’s like the fact that now, you know, I just have a wonderful friend this just told me actually, because she knows me so well, I think it’s time for me to start looking, which is incredible, for that is say that most seniors aren’t like that. That’s true, you know, and so we use their families. We tend to kind of sit back and almost wait till it’s too late. I agree. I agree. So what would you say is the right time. You know, again, another great question and there is no wrong one answer right, and I think in a way there’s no wrong answer. I think it’s it’s paying attention to our loved ones or, as you mentioned, Susanne, your friend. It’s even paying attention to ourselves. But when we are thinking about our parents or other loved ones that that might benefit from senior living, I think it’s listening to them. It’s recognizing changes. You know. Have they stopped driving at night? Have they stopped driving in the rain, which we all know when the Northwest Elie let’s well, I think it’s also, you know, are they are they tending to Kun at home? Yes, I think that’s a huge indicator. You know, if, and now that I think about it, my friend, you know, she doesn’t go out at night anymore. Right she’s at home. She likes to say home and read her book. And here she’s got this huge yard that she has to call somebody to take care of. She’s always dealing with repair people and I can just feel that, you know, the joys gone and it’s like and all of a sudden, you know, there’s just so much work around her house. That’s too much in and I you know, I love her attitude. It’s like, you know, I’ve seen you go through it with your mom talking right. Yeah, I’ve seen it with so many people and I don’t want my kids to go through this. And so what we’re finding, I think is great, is seniors are starting to say, you know, I don’t need all this stuff exactly. I don’t need all this responsibility of just and to think about the money they put out in like property taxes and right, maintenance and car expenses, a new roof, you know, like you said, maintenance of the yard, maintenance of the house, and and it does. It becomes all of a sudden that’s all their life is, is just tending to the property, tending to, you know, the House and and there is more to that, you know, part of retirement supposed to be joyful and right, enjoyable and involvement and socializing. So I agree with you. It’s looking at you know, what has changed with our loved one? How are we seeing them staying at home, having asking the questions of how are you? How do you feel? Instead of telling them what you see, asking them how they feel, you’re going to get a lot more buy in and it’s not it’s never too early. So even taking a look coming in, recognizing that maybe, you know, our parent doesn’t know when they want to make them move. But that’s okay too. Let’s start looking, because they may see that it’s better to make a move when they’re they have the the ability to enjoy everything absolutely. It’s not about care, it’s about living. Yes, and and you guys are not only about that, but you’re also about community. And Yeah, and I know you guys have a couple of really cool events coming up. We do, how there tell us a little bit about which you’re up to right. So we love being involved in the community. Mountlake terrace is so much fun. As you know, we spoke to it earlier. It’s it’s a small toalth small town feel, it really, you know, and and we’re really not a small town. And so we have a wonderful event that we’re going to be a part of, which is the national night out against crime. This is something that Mount Lake Taras does annually. Of course. It’s going to be on August seven, Tuesday night, six to eight thirty, and we’ll have a both and this is just an opportunity for the different businesses to take part, to be involved, for the neighbors in Mount Lake ters to come out and we’re going to be talking specifically about when is the right time for senior living. So myself, quite a few of our team members, including our nurse, including our activities director, we’re going to be there and we’re going to talk about how we can enhance the quality of life for their loved ones or even for themselves. Sure. So we encourage everybody to come out to that. That’s going to be at the Evergreen play field and if you go on our website you can find out all the details. But that’s one thing. And then, as you mentioned, we’ve remodeled recently. It’s been almost a year long excursion. So anyway, we are having a grand opening. That’s going to be on Thursday August nine, that’s four to seven. We’re going to have a casino theme, so lax Jack, poker, five, five, music, great food. We want you to come. So I have to do is just ours. VP. You can do that at M team marketing at Mbkcom or again, you can go to our website and be casing your Livingcom to find out more.
