n cooperation with the Kansas Board of Regents, the Adult Education Program is designed to help adults increase knowledge and improve skills essential in today’s world in several areas:
Pre-GED
Classes enable adults to improve their skills in reading, math, English, Science, and social studies. Employability skills, including beginning computer training, are also a part of the basic skills curriculum. These classes are open to all adults who wish to brush up on basic skills whether or not they have a high school diploma.
Community Education Non-Credit Programs
Community Education classes and workshops are designed for individuals with special interests. Options include programs in the area of driver safety (both vehicle and motorcycle), personal wellness, hobbies, musics, business, finance, and personal growth.
These programs are open to people ages 17 and older (unless otherwise specified). Class offerings are updated regularly on the Continuing Education Calendar, and individuals are encouraged to make requests or suggestions for program ideas.
High School Equivalency Preparation (GED)
Classes prepare adults for all subjects on the GED test: math, reading, social studies, and science. These classes also strengthen writing skills and help students prepare to transition to college or careers after earning their GED.
College Preparation
Classes help strengthen math, reading, and writing skills in order to prepare of the AccuPlacer exam. Students also learn test-taking and study skills for success in post-secondary education.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Classes enable adults with little or no knowledge of English to improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in English.
Accelerating Opportunity (AO-K)
Classes are held at KCKCC main campus and Pioneer Career Center (PCC) in Leavenworth. Classes are offered at a variety of times to meet the needs of changing schedules.
To participate in the Adult Education Program, students must be at least 16 years of age and not attending high school. There is a $50 fee for classes and materials each academic year. Call 913-288-7660 for upcoming orientation dates.
