Senior Citizens (65+ years of age) Tuition Free Audit
In fall 2017, the General Assembly authorized the Board of Governors to promulgate rules permitting those who have attained the age of 65 and who meet applicable admission standards to enroll to audit courses tuition-free on a space available basis.
Senior citizens 65 years of age or older who are not currently enrolled at UNCW and wish to audit a class will need to submit an online application within SeaNet (Audit & ESL Application (Undergraduate)). Please be sure you have the instructor’s permission to audit each course and the Course Registration Number (CRN) prior to submitting the application. The application must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar before the end of the add/drop period.
No application fee is necessary. (effective for applications submitted after May 24, 2018)
If prerequisites are required, you will have to provide proof of having met these prior to registration.
Laboratory, studio, performance, distance education, independent study, internship, or special topic courses are ineligible for this free tuition opportunity.
The Office of the Registrar will register you for the CRN indicated on your application provided there is space available.
Proof of age and North Carolina residence is required. A government issued ID is the preferred source for documenting these. A copy of this documentation will be retained within the Office of the Registrar.
If you register for more than four (4) credit hours, you will need to comply with the immunization requirements under North Carolina state law. Please contact Student Health Services at (910) 962-3280 for more information.
Senior citizens who wish to take courses for credit must apply through the Admissions Office. Tuition and fees will apply.
