The Senior Adult Learning Center (SALC) offers access to most of PSU’s 5,000 classes to Oregon residents who are 65 and older. Whether Auditors are interested in History, Jazz, Literature, Geography, Physical Education classes, or many other subjects, there is something for everyone. After joining SALC, seniors can audit classes without paying tuition if the instructor agrees and space is available.
Lifelong learning is about more than just showing up for class. Senior Auditors are an active part of the university, and a community by their own right. Lifelong learning is about continual rebirth and renewal of the mind and spirit. Taking classes through the Senior Adult Learning Center contributes to auditors’ lives in many meaningful ways.
Staff
In addition to SALC’s part-time Program Coordinator, Alan DeLaTorre, and Administrative Assistant, Lauren Brown, SALC is staffed by student work-study employees, and limited office hours reflect this. SALC’s hours are also subject to change, so please check back on this page for the most updated schedule.
Note about Inclement Weather
In the case of bad weather, PSU will post closure announcements and updates on the Portland State University home page as well as with local television stations. Senior Auditors may register to receive closure notifications in a variety of ways (email, text message, voice mail) through their PSU Banweb account. Also see PSU Alert: Emergency Notification System for information. If classes are not cancelled, we encourage auditors to use their discretion about traveling to campus during bad weather.
