Chartered in 1966, Mitchell Technical Institute opened in September 1968 as part of a statewide system of four technical institutes. More than 18,000 students have graduated since that time. The Institute is governed by the Board of Education of the Mitchell School District 17-2 and operates under rules and regulations set forth by the South Dakota Board of Technical Education. MTI enjoys a close relationship with Mitchell and regional communities. There are established advisory committees of community and regional representatives who provide program input and support.
