Additionally, you should also bring familiar belongings to make your space homey and more comfortable. Don’t be afraid to seek emotional support during this adjustment. Be kind to yourself, be patient, and most of all—be willing to embrace change.

4. Social Isolation

Not everyone is a social butterfly who wants to participate in group activities or outings. Even the more outgoing among us still experience feelings of isolation or loneliness. You may miss your old neighbors and friends. Or maybe you’re worried your family won’t be able to visit you as often in your assisted living facility. Whatever the case, you should always try your best to stay socially connected. If you’re feeling lonely, be sure to discuss this with facility staff. Ask about ways you can stay connected and engaged with others. Loneliness is extremely detrimental to one’s health, so don’t ever let yourself suffer in silence.

The internet can be a great ally in your quest to locate the perfect facility. Check online reviews. Of course, you can always ask for recommendations from trusted friends or family members. Don’t be afraid to visit the facility yourself. Speak with staff members and see how they interact with residents. You only deserve the best, so make sure you choose the best.
