Historical Background:
Established in 1990 by members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair, the MSHA aimed to address the need for affordable senior housing in the area. With financial assistance from various organizations, including the Township of Montclair and the New Jersey Historic Trust, the association acquired and renovated the building, which was originally constructed in 1855 and had previously served as a resort hotel, women’s seminary, and boarding house.
Mission:
The Montclair Inn strives to create a sense of community both inside and outside the residence, collaborating with state and township officials, local businesses, foundations, schools, other non-profits, and volunteers to support the Inn as a model of a non-profit boarding house. The goal is to offer an environment that nourishes both body and soul at an affordable cost throughout the senior years.
