As founder and owner of Elder Law of East Tennessee, Attorney Amelia Crotwell devotes her expertise to helping elders, persons with disabilities, and their families plan for their legal, financial, and health care needs. Her legal practice areas include elder law, estate planning, wills and trusts, special needs trusts, Medicaid and Veterans Benefits planning, conservatorship and probate, Social Security Disability, and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) planning. While she has handled many different types of legal cases since earning her law degree in 1997, she describes working with elders and their families as “by far the most rewarding area of law practice I have ever experienced, both personally and professionally.”
Prior to establishing Elder Law of East Tennessee, Amelia clerked for Gary Wade, then Presiding Judge of the Court of Criminal Appeals. She entered private practice and quickly became a partner at McDonald Levy, where she handled elder law, wills, and estates along with cases involving personal injury, worker’s compensation, family law, and other civil litigation. This past experience gives her a wide base of legal knowledge that she draws upon to serve her clients.
In 2010, Amelia launched Elder Law of East Tennessee to focus exclusively on the area of law she found most challenging and rewarding. Elder Law of East Tennessee, a Life Care Planning law firm, offers clients an individualized and coordinated approach to solving the legal, financial, and care challenges of aging and disability. In addition to serving her clients, Amelia also takes an active role in the community by educating other lawyers and community groups about Life Care Planning and elder law. She has served in leadership roles with various bar and professional organizations.
