Kathie Brown Roberts, Esq., CELA, is the founding manager and owner of Kathie Brown Roberts, P.C. established in 2006.
Kathie earned her undergraduate degree at University of Texas at Austin where she graduated in 1987. She received her Juris Doctor degree from California Western School of Law in San Diego, California in 1991, was admitted to the California Bar in 1991, the Alaska Bar in 1992 and the Utah Bar in 2005.
Kathie is the immediate past Chair of the Elder Law Section of the Utah State Bar, and is currently one of three attorneys in the state of Utah to have earned her specialist certification in Elder Law from the Board of Certification of the National Elder Law Foundation, the only elder law program accredited by the American Bar Association. She a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), ElderCounsel and the Salt Lake Estate Planning Counsel. She is a member of the Elderlaw and Estate Planning Sections of the Utah State Bar and the Estate Planning Section of the Alaska State Bar. She is a member of the Pro Bono Committee of the Elder-Law Section of the Utah State Bar and has actively provided volunteer legal services to local senior centers for the past several years. She is a recipient of a 2010 Volunteer Service Award from the Sandy Senior Center for her pro bono services to seniors.
As a CELA, Kathie is certified to have:
Been licensed to practice law in at least one state and be in good standing with all Bar Associations where she is licensed to practice;
Spent an average of at least 16 hours a week practicing elder law during the three years preceding the application for certification;
Handled at least 60 elder law matters during those three years with a specified distribution among a wide variety of topics;
Participated in at least 45 hours of continuing legal education in the three years preceding the application;
Favorably been evaluated by five elder law attorney specialists who are not a member of her firm;
Passed a full day certification examination.
In 2010, Kathie was appointed to both the Finance and Capital Corporation Boards of the Diocese of Salt Lake City and has been the Permit and License Committee chair for the Festival of Roses in Draper, Utah since 2009. She is also a mentor for Catholic Community Services Refugee Resettlement Program. She currently lives in Sandy, Utah with her family.
