Retirement Communities Near Sacramento: Top 10 Highest-Rated

Maybe you already live near Sacramento and want to sell your house and move to a retirement community. Or maybe you live in another state and have always dreamed of calling sunny California home. Regardless of which camp you fall into, you’ve probably looked into a retirement community or two. It sure would be nice if someone took the time to compile all the best retirement communities in Sacramento into one big list, wouldn’t it? Well, that’s exactly what we’ve done!
Our research process:
- We start our search on Google, where we find the retirement communities with the highest ratings and most reviews. From there, we go to each community’s website to do a bit of digging. We try to find out the following information: what kind of community they are (independent living, CCRC, etc.), what awards they’ve won, what services and amenities they offer, and their policy on pets, to name a few. We also read website testimonials and FAQ pages!
- After we’re done checking out the website, we read some reviews on platforms like Google and Yelp, among others. If there’s a disparity between ratings on these platforms, then we always dig into why. Did someone give a one-off negative rating that doesn’t seem to represent the community as a whole? Or did multiple reviews mention the same complaint?
- Last but not least, we dig into every community’s social media accounts! Specifically, we check out their Facebook and Instagram (if they have the latter). We also try to find out if they have a YouTube channel, and if they do, we’re sure to watch their videos!
Author’s note: While we LOVE doing research and helping seniors, we also strongly encourage all our readers to do their own research and visit each of these communities in person. Remember: testimonials and reviews paint only half of the picture. So, schedule an in-person visit if possible. Once you’re there, take your time and ask yourself (and the staff) some important questions. Make mental notes, too. Does the community seem safe and secure? How clean is it? Did the staff greet you at the door with a smile? Who is on staff? What about the residents? Do they seem happy and well-taken-care-of? If you talked to them, did they mention any complaints? Does the facility offer all the services and amenities that would make your life there comfortable? In the end, if you don’t think a certain retirement community is the right fit for you, don’t be afraid to walk away and look elsewhere! There are too many retirement communities in the world for you to be anything less than totally satisfied!
