Many larger cities concentrate on building up and out, paying little attention to natural beauty. This is not the case in Huntsville, Alabama! Though it’s one of the four largest cities in Alabama, Huntsville has plenty of wooded areas, gardens, lakes, and so much more for retirees to enjoy. If you crave city life but still want to hold onto small-town luxuries, then Huntsville is the place for you!
Huntsville is located within 2 hours of both Atlanta, Georgia, and Nashville, Tennesse. A day trip to either of these popular southern destinations will take no more than a few hours. Perfect for the retiree who loves to travel!
Another thing that makes Huntsville so special is the large number of PhD holders who live there. Fun fact: Huntsville has more residents with PhDs per square mile than most other US cities. The reason is likely because it’s home to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center (also a great place to visit!). And, Huntsville holds many opportunities for those who hold degrees in science and engineering. Retirees who are looking for part-time jobs or looking to volunteer in the science and technology field will find this town is full of opportunities!
Well, the weather in Huntsville is excellent for those who are looking to get away from cold, harsh winters without having to deal with summers that are over 100 degrees F. Most winter temperatures are around 49 degrees. Temperatures in the summer are usually just shy of 90 degrees. This mildly perfect weather leaves lots of room to explore Monte Sano State Park!
