Since 1978, the Center of Concern has been a source of hope and inspiration to thousands of clients and volunteers whose lives have been enriched by our programs. We are here to inform, advocate and intervene on behalf of residents struggling with challenges related to aging, homelessness, and accessing resources to remain independent in their homes.
All of our programs share a common purpose: supporting families and strengthening the community. The talents of our experienced staff, trained volunteers, and longstanding community partners band together to provide compassion, experience, and insight to help residents overcome isolation and significant challenges to remain independent. With 10,000 baby boomers turning 65 each day until 2030, we will continue to expand our programs and services to address needs in our community.
The Center of Concern’s Home Sharing Program is a service that connects seniors or responsible adults who have a spare room in their home or condo with individuals seeking affordable housing. It’s designed to provide financial relief, companionship, and a way to maintain independence while staying in the community.
How It Works:
- Matching Process: The program matches “providers” (those offering a room) with “seekers” (those looking for housing) through application screenings and personal interviews conducted by the Center of Concern staff.
- Flexible Arrangements: Each match is tailored to the specific needs of the provider and seeker, ensuring compatibility and mutual benefit.
Benefits of Home Sharing:
- Reduces housing costs for both parties.
- Helps seniors protect retirement savings and stay in their homes.
- Provides companionship while maintaining an independent lifestyle.
- Offers below-market rental rates for seekers.
- Generates additional income for providers to help with mortgage or rent expenses.
Eligibility:
Both seekers and providers must complete an application process, and references are required to ensure safety and compatibility.
