15 Valentine Crafts to Make with Your Grandchildren

Are you looking for some ideas for Valentine’s crafts to do with your grandchildren? You can find all kinds of ideas for crafts to make for this special day. Kids love to be creative all the time, but they especially love the colors of Valentine’s Day. It was a favorite holiday when I used to teach daycare. Here are some ideas for things to make for this day of love.
Valentine’s Jewelry
Get some craft wire or yarn and beads of different colors and shapes and make jewelry. You can make bracelets and necklaces with your grandkids for their friends and family members. Not crafty? No problem—you can buy kits to make Valentine’s Day jewelry on Amazon!
Stained Glass Heart
Cut a large heart out of construction paper and then cut up pieces of different Valentine’s colored tissue paper like red, pink, purple, and white. Have your grandkids glue the tissue paper onto the heart to make it look like stained glass.
Valentine’s Fingerpainting
Buy some paper and various colored finger paints and let your grandkids go to town making their own masterpiece. You can also make your own finger paint for them to use!
Homemade Heart Crayons
Buy some heart-shaped baking tins and ask your children to send your grandchildren and their peeled, broken crayons to your house. Let your kids put their favorite colors in each tin slot and then bake them at 350 degrees for 4-5 minutes or until melted. Remove and cool completely. You can even put them in the refrigerator for ten to fifteen minutes to speed up the hardening process.
Homemade Valentine’s Cards
Homemade Valentine’s cards offer as much variety as store-bought ones. You can make ones with candy glued on them. (Consider using conversation hearts or lollipops.) Older kids can design unique Valentine’s cards with computer software programs and the like. The best part is every card will be unique and from the heart.
Homemade Valentine’s Candy
You can do this in one of two ways. For little ones who shouldn’t be around the stove or oven, you can pick some no-bake treats to make like fancy rice krispy treats (think ones with butterscotch, peanut butter, and chocolate or ones made with fruity pebbles) or Oreo balls that you dip in chocolate or even different cake pops.
For your older grandchildren, pick out some candy recipes that you would like to make. This could be homemade chocolates, lollipops, heavenly hash, or fudge. Your grandkids will love learning how to make traditional homemade candy and your recipients will love eating it.
Heart Bookmark
Buy some colored cardstock, a paper punch, and some ribbon. Next, cut out some rectangles to make a bookmark. Then dip your grandkids’ thumbs into either red, white, or pink paint and press their thumbprints onto the paper to make a heart. Repeat two more times. Let dry and then punch a hole in the top and add a ribbon.
Valentine’s Picture Frame
Buy a cheap picture frame and some Valentine’s stickers to decorate it with. Talk with your grandchildren ahead of time and see who they want to make a picture frame for and what picture they want to put in the frame. This way you’re all ready for crafting day.
Valentine’s Collage
Buy a bunch of art supplies like Valentine’s stickers, puff paint, glitter, etc and let your grandkids make a collage to hang on the wall.
Homemade Stuffed Animals
Kids love stuffed animals. If you are good at sewing or crocheting, you can make your own stuffed animals. There are all kinds of free patterns you can find online or you can purchase them as well.
Another option is to buy a “make your own” stuffed animal kit from Walmart. They have all kinds of animals, from dogs and bears to unicorns and squirrels. The best part? No sewing is required.
Valentine’s Wreath
There are all kinds of Valentine’s wreaths you can make. Go online and pick one you like and then buy the supplies to make it with your grandkids. Better yet, make two so they can take one home and hang it on their door or somewhere in their home.
Valentine’s Handprint Flowers
Dip your grandkids’ hands in red, purple, or pink paint and place them in a row on a piece of white cardstock. Then add pipe cleaner stems and leaves to make a flower.
Valentine’s Day Fashion and Accessories
This may take a little planning, but it will be a lot of fun. Round up tee shirts in everyone’s size and favorite color and then buy different colored fabric paints and Valentine’s decals to decorate with. If you’re really old school and still have a Bedazzler, break it out and let the kids have a ball. Let them decorate each shirt any way they want for themselves, siblings, or a parent. They will love being fashionistas for a day.
You could also buy some hair barrette kits that they can decorate. Girls will love being able to decorate their accessories to match their shirts.
Valentine’s Day “Spa” Gifts
Everyone needs some time to pamper themselves and relax. Even kids. For them, this could mean taking a bubble bath or having their nails painted. Why not make some Valentine’s spa gifts for friends and family? You can find recipes for body scrub, homemade hand lotion, body scrub body wash, etc.
This is great because you know what ingredients are in it. Still, you will want to make sure none of your recipients have any allergies to perfumes, dyes, etc. Your older grandchildren will love making these kinds of products.
Other Valentine’s “Treats”
Pick out some other Valentine-themed goodies you can make with your grandchildren. Popcorn balls with red and pink candy melt drizzle, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut into heart shapes, flavored crackers (think oyster crackers with flavors like taco or ranch), cut and decorated cookies, heart-shaped hot chocolate bombs, homemade soft pretzels, etc. Pair some of your salty with your sweet and you will have a winning combination to give to your Valentine’s.
Homemade Valentine’s Playdough
You can find all kinds of recipes for homemade Valentine’s Day Playdough. I’ve seen Playdough recipes for holiday colors, edible, scented, chocolate, with glitter in it, etc. Don’t forget to add some cookie cutters or other tools they can use to cut and roll the dough. Sit back and watch their imaginations run wild or get in on the fun.

There are all kinds of fun ideas for crafts and homemade things you can make for Valentine’s Day. Set up a date with your grandkids, pick a project, and put your whole heart into it this Valentine’s Day!
