Did you know that nearly 90% of seniors want to stay in their homes as they age? That makes perfect sense to me! But did you know that you don’t actually have to age in place in your home? You can also age in place in an active adult community! Here are 3 reasons why you should consider that option.
In order to age in place safely, your home has to have the appropriate safety features. A lot of our homes may not meet the appropriate aging-in-place criteria. However, my home in my active adult community does! It’s one level. No steps. Other safety features have been there since day one: high countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms, tall commodes, walk-in shower with seat, levered door handles, extra insulation, and more!
If most of us Boomers were honest with ourselves, we’d admit that we don’t handle winters as well as we did when we were younger. I don’t know about you, but the cold does a number on these old bones! Well, here’s an advantage of moving to an active adult community—you can pick where you want to live! So, if you’ve always dreamed of living near a beach, now’s your chance!
Maybe this won’t be a dealbreaker for some folks, but for me, part of the draw to an active adult community was knowing I’d be part of a community. And not just any community: one comprised of retirees in the same stage of life as me. These are folks who want to enjoy their golden years to the fullest. They want to pursue their passions and make new friends. They’re a social support system. What more could you want?
