Where to Find Free and Discounted Internet

Lifeline

This federal program is designed to make phone and internet service more affordable for low-income households. As such, Lifeline provides eligible consumers with a monthly discount of up to $9.25. Additionally, customers living on Tribal lands are eligible for an enhanced discount of up to $34.25 per month.

To qualify for the Lifeline program, you must meet the following criteria:

• Your household’s income must be 135% or less than the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
• You or someone in your household is enrolled in one or more of the following programs:
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps
  • Medicaid
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
  • Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit

To apply for Lifeline, you’ll need your full name, date of birth, last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (or Tribal identification number), and home address. You can apply via the following methods:

• Online: Log in or create a new account to complete the Lifeline application online.
• Contact your phone or internet company: Call or visit the website of your phone or internet provider and ask for assistance in applying.
• Mail: Print a Lifeline application (available in English or Spanish). After completing this application, send it and copies of your proof documentation to this address:

AT&T

Cox believes in providing affordable internet! As such, they offer a ConnectAssist specifically for low-income households, with costs running as little as $30 for qualifying customers! To qualify for Connect Assist, customers must meet the following criteria:

• They must be enrolled in at least one government assistance program, such as SNAP, Medicaid, or Veterans Pension.
• They must be willing to provide additional documentation for an eligibility check.
