That’s why we think adult day care centers are the perfect place for seniors to attend, even if it’s just once or twice a week. Our research process:
- We start by finding the highest-rated adult day care centers on Google and Yelp. Then, if they have a website, we read through it to find out everything we can about each center. For example, what kind of care services do they offer? Do they accept Medicaid or veterans’ benefits? What sort of programs and activities can participants expect to enjoy? Do they offer round-trip transportation? How long have they been in business?
- Next, we circle back around to Google and Yelp to read REAL participant reviews. We don’t just look for the positive reviews. We take the negative ones into account, too. We also check to see how/if the center responded.
- And finally, we check every center’s social media presence. AKA, if they have a Facebook or Instagram, we’re sure to dig through those, too! If an adult day care center has a YouTube channel, we watch some videos there, too.
Author’s note: While we LOVE doing research and helping seniors, we also strongly encourage all our readers to do their own research and visit each of these centers in person. Reviews and pictures tell only half the story. So, if an adult day care center has a free day pass, take advantage of it! Once you’re there, take note of what you see. Is the facility clean? Does it have safety features? And what about the staff? Do they seem kind, professional, and caring? What kind of food did they serve? Did they make special considerations for every person and their palate (i.e., if someone is a vegetarian or on a low-sodium diet)? Ask yourself those important questions and don’t be afraid to walk away if you decide a certain adult day care center isn’t for you! Your instincts know better than any Google review or Yelp rating.
