The following podcast is provided by an approved senior care provider on the answers for elders radio network. And welcome everyone to answers for elders podcast network. And we are here with a very, very exciting announcement to all of our listeners because, as you know, answers for elders works a lot with morning star senior living and you had an opportunity last weekend to meet John Yeager, who talked about the Morning Star Foundation and all the great things that morning starts senior living does. Well, today is a very big celebration because a brand new community is opening up in the Greater Portland area in Hillsboro, Oregon, and it’s morning star Hillsboro and we have two very special guests here that are getting ready for a big celebration because I’d soon there’s a grand opening and residents are about ready to move in. And we have Matt Ryan and Geordana Jorman, Johan Poutra, I’ve got to get that right, or Danna with us to talk about this brand new community. Welcome to both of you. Thank you. So you guys are been working so hard in building an incredible community and of course I’ve been doing a little bit of spying on you on the website and seeing images, you know, amazing photographs of a community that is for independent living that’s over fifty five. So it’s not necessarily assist a living, but it’s really filling in need, I think, in in the older adult area. And you know, I’m seeing a lot and, and this is where I get so excited about that your concept, because there’s a lot of baby boomers out there. They want to live out their bucket list now, you know, they’ve been working and they’re retiring and they are still living in a big house and it’s a lot of maintenance and they don’t want that kind of complicated life. They want to have be in a situation where they don’t have to worry about maintenance or repairs or anything like that, and they want to maybe go take a trip or do things in the community or you know I and so I am so amazed by this concept that you guys have. Tell us a little bit first of all, as we start, tell us about morning star Hillsborough. Yeah, well, it’s really exciting times for us and Hillsboro is such a great place to have a senior living community and also multifamily living communities around, which is why this area is so popular. So yeah, if you’ve ever, you know, had that moment where you just wish, you you know, you got to a really Nice hotel and you just said, Gosh, we just had the best experience, we’re going to definitely come back to this hotel, take that lifestyle and put it into senior living. That’s what we’ve done here in morning start, Hillsboro is just created this beautiful surrounding with beautiful decorations, well thought out places for amenities to be in. We have a full pool as well as one of the largest fitness centers that I’ve seen, and senior living and we have a wonderful kitchen, three restaurants that include a pub as well. So there’s a lot of dining venues. There’s a grand piano as you come in, music and and just, you know, lots of fun. How cool is that? So, you know, not not like you thought in the past, where it’s a place that is an active or, you know, a place that people are just sleeping. This is an active, really great community for anyone that’s fifty five or older that wants to have all of the worries taken away, just like when you’re on vacation, but do that for the for, you know, the rest of your life. Have Somebody weight on you that is actually giving you service that you deserve right, you know, somebody times to go into restaurants. You don’t know what you’re going to get today here. You know, we hire for the from the heart, you know, we hire people that want to care about you and take care of you and want your experience here to be the best and exceptional. And we actually are delivering on that promise, which is why so many people have already checked us out. Yeah, and so many people listening can get a lot of great information today. Well, and it’s interesting because I don’t I I’m sixty six years old. I’m my listeners know that. I just, you know, I’ve entered the Medicare world and all these things. But what’s really interesting is a lot of people my age have had this old, you know, this old missnomer of you know, information, thinking that senior living is like, quote unquote, and a nursing home, and it’s not. And when I bring people in, especially because I do therapy dog work, so I bring a lot of my you know, other dog owners and we come into senior living and they all go, you know, I really want to live here. How many times do I hear that? And, you know, there is a lot of I think. I think one of the things that you guys are doing and what’s happening in the senior living industry is that there, you know, there has been this no man’s land for a while of, you know, a senior that lives, you know, in their home and then they’re just outlive them you know, in their home because they they are isolated and they’re afraid to move and they’re too really too young to go to assist a living and they don’t want to live in a place where, you know, there’s that kind of Amenity, you know, kind of situation. They want to be with people their own age and what you guys have created is, I think, something very exciting, because I think there’s a lot of seniors out there that they’ve retired and then they sit there and they look at this house. That is too much to deal with, the stay, too much to deal with to move, and so they’re, you know, they’re at a point in their life where they don’t really know what to do. And I don’t and I think finally, you know, a beautiful community like yours comes along and it’s like a no brainer. It’s like, you know, everything is lifted. There’s no more of the responsibilities of maintenance or repairs, no more cooking. You know, you can totally just it’s like living on a cruise ship every day. You know you can go where you want to go, you can eat what you want to eat, when you want to eat, all of those things. And the social aspect we don’t ever want to discount because obviously by sitting there isolated, that’s not a good thing. And you know, we’ve seen a lot of that aftermath from the pandemic of seniors that sat alone day after day after day. And now it’s time to get out into the world and to celebrate life and this is this is the opportunity. So it’s just so exciting. So you guys are in this the Hillsborough area. What caused morning started want to come to the area? I think you know there’s well, there’s a lot of planning that went into this building. A lot of people looking at not only the density that is around, you know, just Portland in general, but then being able to have housing that is set up specifically for seniors and you know, this was a prime location because we are surrounded by a lot of multi family yeah areas, but they just don’t cater to senior lifestyle and right. So a lot of thought and preparation went into the location, which is right off Aberglyn Parkway, which anybody that is local has heard of, the streets of tannis borne, so we’re very close to the streets of Tannis born and the you know, other cross street that’s really major over here is Wilkins, which also goes along with Cornelia’s pass road. Wow, you know, the shopping, the admenities that are around the huge Aberglyn Park that is gorgeous with a huge water feature, lots of walking paths, lots of natural you know, Bird Sanctuaries, just a lot of beauty over in this area. Is The reason why we chose for you know this and just the convenience for everyone. It’s not too hard to get onto a freeway and it’s tucked back away so you’re not by a freeway. Sure, sure, you know it’s interesting. I you know, I’m going to ask you just if I’m going to step into the you know, this sounds intriguing but I don’t really know what to expect if I moved into a community like yours. So would you guys share with me a little bit about if I am a resident of your community, what would be a typical day like for me? Yeah, well, the beautiful part. You hit the nail on the head earlier with the convenience factor. If you were resident in our morning star Hillsboro community, the beautiful thing is that you can do whatever you want your whatever you want your day to look like, that’s what it can be. So if you want to go shopping, then you can go shopping. If you want to play a game of some sorts, you know a card game or some if you’re a part of a social club, you can still continue all of the daily activities and programming that you’re doing right now in your own home, but just with with others, and that’s the beautiful part about this lifestyle. You can come and go as you please and hang out in our theater area or in one of our other amenity locations, and or you can take a dip in the pool. We’re going to have a full programming calendar full of a variety of different activities and they’re all led by our life enrichment meater. So maybe she’ll get on the podcast in the future and she abs a little bit more about some of the programming activities that we’re going to provide here. But really the day is what you make it. Yeah, that’s the beautiful part about about this community. Well, and that’s the thing I think that when when you you look at you know, what’s that the what is a day? If you’re still living at home? You’ve got errands you have to do, you have to go buy groceries, you have to do meal planning, you have to do all of these maintenance and repairs, there’s house cleaning, there’s all the things that go on in a typical day. When you’re living independently and there’s no real social outlet, you have to get yourself out there and sometimes it’s not easy. Especially, you know, to meet new friends that have, you know, things in common with you is really important. And so I’m just really excited about this community and I want to tell all of our listeners out there please know that if you’re in the Oregon area, if you know someone in the Greater Portland area, I hope that you’ll come to visit and come to the grand opening and I know that you guys are going to talk about that. So Phillis in on the grand opening. Yeah, we’re so excited. So our our grand opening weekend is the eighteen and nineteen. We’re inviting people to come in and do individual tours of the building in the community, even try out some of the food and see some of the activity that are going on. The best way to get in touch with us to set up a one on one tour is you can call. I always say called, click or come in right. So, yes, all calling is our phone number, which is five hundred and three, eight to eight zero nine, eight, zero. Huh. Coming in is, you know, you can drop in at any time and we can make an appointment or even sometimes do it to her right on the spot. And you know, clicking is simply going to our website, which is morning you can go to morning starcom, Morning Star senior Livingcom, and you would be able to then choose the hills we’re all location. You’ll see all of our locations are up and which is a lot of them. There’s a lot we’re growing, which is also an indicator that there is definitely a neat that’s being filled. There is and I just love what you said about, you know, the entertainment as well as, you know, being able to have I mean, if you want to have a chef make something for you, it’s done. You know. You just don’t have that experience like you do at home. So we really invite you to come in and check it out. Yeah, what we are so excited to be a part of your community and certainly I’m going to try to get down for your grand opening. I can’t promise, but if I can, it would be really, really fun to meet your staff and different kinds of people that were the’ll be touring your facility. So I’m looking forward to a long relationship with you. Guys, is, we introduced morning star to the Greater Portland area and thank you both for being on the show today. Thank you.
