Exclusive Sneak Peek of Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan

If you’re a Bob Dylan fan, then we’ve got great news for you. Production is underway on A Complete Unknown, an upcoming biopic starring Dune actor Timothée Chalamet. While the release date has yet to be announced, we do know that the film will chronicle Dylan’s rise to fame in the early 1960s following his move from Minnesota to New York City. Leaked images from the set show twenty-eight-year-old Chalamet dressed like the “Blowin’ in the Wind” hitmaker, complete with a cap, gloves, and a guitar.

While some viewers might have reservations about Chalamet playing the famous singer-songwriter, Dylan himself gave the casting choice his seal of approval.

“I’ve spent several wonderfully charming days in his [Bob Dylan’s] company, just one-on-one, talking to him,” director James Mangold stated last year. “He loves movies.” Mangold added that the film isn’t really a biopic and will instead focus more on one moment in the notoriously private singer’s life.

Interestingly enough, Chalamet will be doing his own singing in the film. Reports state that the actor has hired the same vocal and dialect coaches who worked with Austin Butler in 2022’s Elvis. While the leaked images have garnered mixed reactions from the internet, both Mangold and Chalamet seem excited about the film.

“It’s such an amazing time in American culture and the story of… a young 19-year-old Bob Dylan coming to New York with like two dollars in his pocket and becoming a worldwide sensation within three years,” Mangold told Collider in an April 2023 interview.

So, if you’re a fan of Bob Dylan, Timothée Chalamet, or folk music in general, you may want to buy a ticket for A Complete Unknown in the very near future! But, in the meantime, check out Dylan’s iconic live performance of “Mr. Tambourine Man” at the 1964 Newport Folk Festival.
