Plus 50
The Plus 50 Encore Completion Program is a national program offered by the American Association of Community Colleges and aimed to help adults over the age of 50 earn certificates or credits towards a degree in high demand fields. Brunswick Community College’s Continuing Education, Workforce Development department offers skill updates and career makeovers with the support of the Plus 50 program to help adults transition into a new career.
Training programs offered at Brunswick Community College prepares adults for careers as certified nursing assistants, electrical technicians, computer repair technicians, substance abuse counselors, and positions in other in-demand fields. Courses are also available for those interested in gaining their adult basic education.
Additional funding from the Deerbrook Charitable Trust will support an expansion, tripling in size the Plus 50 Initiative, to 100 community colleges from 2012 to 2015. The grant funding will provide colleges like Brunswick Community College with tools and resources, funds and expertise needed to build successful Plus 50 programs.
Brunswick Community College students served by the Plus 50 program may be enrolled in continuing education or curriculum programs. With a wide variety of career pathways to choose from, students are given the opportunity to pursue a career field that suits them best. Nurse Aide (CNA I or CNA II), Nursing and Allied Health, Emergency Medical Science (EMS), Fitness Programs and Culinary Arts are just a few options offered at BCC. With four locations and the option of online courses (curriculum – online, continuing education – online), Brunswick Community College is able to reach students living all across Brunswick County.
