The University of Puerto Rico at Cayey is an autonomous unit of the University of Puerto Rico. Founded in 1967 as a regional school in the headquarters of an old military camp, it became a university college in 1969 and acquired autonomy on April 2, 1982, by resolution of the Higher Education Council. The mission of UPR-Cayey is established in commitment to the fundamental values ??of the University and from the mission of the University of Puerto Rico as a public institution of higher education.
The variety of academic backgrounds of its faculty provides richness and diversity to the educational experience, the natural beauty of its surroundings and its location, both near and far from the main metropolitan areas, fosters a welcoming academic environment, which invites study, reflection and personal development. Ours is a school on a human scale and with human quality. We care more about quality than quantity.
The Declaration of Mission, Goals, General Objectives of the University of Puerto Rico in Cayey, developed with the broadest contest of all sectors of the academic community, crystallizes the feeling of this academic community about what is and what should be University of Puerto Rico in Cayey. Approved unanimously by the Academic Board on March 5, 1993, it was endorsed by the Board of Higher Education, which, through Certification 94-002, repealed the last mission, issued before granting Cayey autonomy and collected in its Certification 57 series 1979-80. On February 23, 1994, he obtained the unanimous support of the University Board. It was updated on May 4, 2006, through the certification number 89 series 2005-06 of the Academic Senate.
