If you’ve been following us for a while then you know how much we love HIIT workouts. We’ve incorporated them into many of our online videos.

But why do we love them so much?

HIIT workouts or “High-Intensity Interval Training” workouts are not new but they have become very popular within the last few years. HIIT-style workouts consist of interval periods of high-intensity exercise (based on your level of fitness) and then brief moments of rest in between. They are usually performed with a timer to keep your intervals evenly spaced and can last anywhere from 10 minutes to 30 minutes.

Most HIIT-style workouts don’t go much longer than that because the way they are designed if done properly, you should be getting a great heart-healthy workout in a smaller period of time and enough to benefit from the variation in your heart rate while doing these exercises. It’s this variation that creates the benefits and builds up your cardio health.

But HIIT workouts aren’t just to build cardio, they also incorporate resistance training (weights, resistance bands, etc) to give your muscles a great workout. Building strength in all areas of your body, depending on what movements you are doing. What we love the most about HIIT style workouts is that you can get a FULL BODY workout incorporating cardio health and strength training in a short period of time!

And that’s what makes HIIT workouts so important to our team.

We hope you have a moment to try some of our HIIT-style exercises if you’ve never tried them before. To get started you can go to our workouts page and filter them on HIIT. There you will find a few different choices based on your level of fitness as well as some seated and/or standing variations.

We also invite you to check out Meredith’s article on ActiveBeat discussing more reasons why HIIT workouts should be considered in your training schedule.
