Being a senior on a fixed income can be difficult sometimes. Especially when things come up, and you need some extra cash. According to research, nearly 19% of older adults are still part of the workforce today. Thankfully, there are many ways to make extra cash, with and without leaving your home. Are you looking for a part-time job? Even better, are you looking for a part-time job that pays daily or weekly?

If so, this is the list for you. With some of these jobs, you can set your own hours. Others have set hours, but you will get paid either daily or weekly, no matter what. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Jobs Outside the Home

Instacart

This is a very flexible and personal shopping service. In fact, there’s no set schedule! You work when you want to. Basically, you choose orders on the app, pick them up from the store and deliver them. They pay either daily or weekly and if you want to cash out every day there is a fee.

DoorDash

DoorDash is a food delivery service. They need drivers to accept food orders and deliver them. You can work whenever you want and schedule your time in blocks that work for you. They pay weekly, daily, or instantly through DasherDirect or your bank account. 

One thing to keep in mind is that some areas may be over-saturated with drivers. Sadly, this happened to my friend when she applied to deliver in her area. Still, it never hurts to check it out and see!

Rover

If you love animals, you will love Rover. They always need pet sitters on their app. You could do this as an “at home” job if you have your own home and have a big enough yard. However, most people would rather keep their pets in their familiar surroundings. Rover pays either by check or Paypal a few days after your sitting appointment.

Lyft/Uber

With Lyft and Uber, you pick people up and take them where they need to go. This job is flexible and they pay weekly on Tuesdays. It’s important to note that Lyft often has more lucrative driver rates, while Uber is available in more cities globally. Therefore, make sure you do your research and figure out which would be a more advantageous choice in your area!

DeedCollector.com (Court Research)

This company hires people to do court research and the hours are flexible so you can do it on your own time. They pay weekly via direct deposit. This is a great option for seniors who are tech-savvy and love to research! You need to have your own laptop to do this gig, so be mindful of that before you check them out!

Local Jobs

Look at your local job listings and see what’s out there. For example, I’ve seen jobs in restaurants and gas stations that pay daily. See what’s available in your area. You could always work in a fast-food restaurant or see if you can become a part-time bank teller. If you have a coffee shop in your area, see if they’re hiring baristas! Another option is to work retail, like a clothing shop or maybe a sporting goods store.  You can also check your local school district and see what they have available. You may find a job in the cafeteria, as a teacher’s assistant, receptionist, bus driver, etc. These jobs usually pay well and have benefits. 

Remote Jobs

Cambly

This company hires people to teach English to non-native speakers. The good news is that you don’t need to have a teaching degree or any experience, as you are having casual conversations to help people learn. Payday is every Monday via PayPal. 

StudyPool

This platform hires people to help kids with homework. You can withdraw your earnings at any time, and it will take three days to process before showing up in your account. You can teach a variety of subjects, including science, programming, humanities, English, and more!

Allegis Transcription

This company looks for transcribers with experience to join their team and deal mostly in the legal and insurance industries. They pay every Friday, and you can request your earnings via check or direct deposit.

Textbroker

This company is always hiring writers, and your earnings will vary based on what tier you are on. Lower tiers will make less money than higher tiers. You can only choose work that is on your writing level. 

For example, if they put you on a Tier 3 level, you can only write assignments that are listed under Tier 3. They make payments weekly. If you are new to writing, this is a good place to get your feet wet and see how you like it. 

The HOTH

The HOTH is another freelance writing platform looking for new writers. You must speak English and be able to keep deadlines. They don’t hire all the time, so if you are interested, monitor their career page. The HOTH pays weekly.

Another platform for writers, you can write various types of content (copywriting, articles, blog posts, e-books) in various niches, choosing from either their marketplace or working on managed projects. Pay is twice a week via Paypal as long as there is $10 in your account.

To be considered, you must have either a Bachelor’s degree with teaching certification, Master’s degree, PhD, state teaching license, or ESL or other language teaching qualifications. This company hires work-at-home agents to book rooms for groups of people and is all inbound calling. No cold calling at all. They pay if a call turns into a booking, making this commission-based only. Once again, if sales aren’t your thing, this may not be the job for you. They pay every Tuesday.
