Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio was launched in 2011 and is believed to be the first dementia-specific radio program in the world. The show caters to all types of dementia and caring needs. It has an international audience and has had the honor to be recognized by some of the most renowned names in the world – Oprah, Maria Shriver, AARP, the National Institute for Dementia Education, and Sharecare.
Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio’s mission continues to be to give voice to those diagnosed with a form of dementia, along with care partners, and those that serve them around the world. We believe by our guests sharing real stories about living with dementia, we can give comfort, hope, and insights on how to live graciously with dementia. By allowing families, professionals, and advocates to share their resources, we are all better equipped to create a more supportive dementia care culture.
Our host Lori La Bey, has a compassionate heart that creates a safe and comfortable environment for her guests to speak honestly and openly as her community listens in. She has been told by her audience that they can hear and feel the passion in the voices of her guests, which gives them hope and inspires those diagnosed, families, and professionals to make a difference as well. No matter how nervous her guests are at first, they are amazed at how much fun they had and how fast the time flies by. They state they had a great time doing the show and felt relaxed and comfortable.

About the Host, Lori La Bey
Lori La Bey is a passionate and inspiring keynote speaker and the founder of Alzheimer’s Speaks, a Minnesota-based advocacy group and media outlet making an international impact by providing education and support for those dealing with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Her own mother struggled with dementia for 30 years.
In 2011, Alzheimer’s Speaks Radio launched as the first program dedicated to dementia in the world and is still named the #1 Alzheimer’s podcast in 2022.
Dementia Chats, webinar series was created in 2011, with experts living with dementia. In 2020 she launched Dementia Quick Tips a video series she wished would have been around when her mother had dementia. In addition, a 37-year dream came true when Lori partnered with Dave Wiederrich, founder of the Memory Café Directory, to launch Dementia Map, a global resource directory.
In 2013, La Bey ignited the fire behind the first Dementia Friendly Community in the U.S., in Watertown, WI. She launched what is believed to be the first Memory Café in the U.S. in Roseville, MN in 2013, and is a founding member of Roseville’s Alzheimer’s and Dementia Community Action Team and committee member that developed the Dementia Caregivers Re-Entry Initiative. She also launched Dementia and the Arts in 2021. Lori is featured on SaltBox TV and involved in a pilot show they are producing called Dementia Divas.
In 2023, Lori turned her keynote into the book Betty the Bald Chicken – Lessons in How to Care.
