Our research process:
- Our research starts with a Google search, where we find all the retirement communities with the highest ratings and most reviews. We mosey our way to their website and try to gather as much information as possible. Are they solely an independent living community, or do they offer other accommodations? Are they pet-friendly? What do they offer in the way of entertainment? Do they have an on-site fitness center? A clubhouse? Basically, we want to know the ins and outs of every single community!
- After we finish reading through their website, we head back to Google to continue our research! Specifically, we take the time to read through some reviews. We take all opinions into account: the good, the bad, and the middling. We also cross-reference reviews on other platforms, like Yelp, Facebook, and U.S. News & World Report.
- Finally, we dig through every community’s social media profiles, generally on Facebook and Instagram. We also try to find their YouTube channels (if they have one) so we can watch their videos and get a firsthand look at every community. Then we link them below for your viewing pleasure!
Author’s note: While we LOVE doing research and helping seniors, we also strongly encourage all our readers to do their own research and visit each of these communities in person. Testimonials and YouTube videos paint only half of the picture. So, schedule an in-person visit if possible. Once you’re there, take your time. Ask questions, both out loud and to yourself. Does the community seem safe? Clean? Is the staff kind and professional? Did they rush you through the tour, or did they seem happy to answer all your questions? Do the residents seem happy? If you talked to them, did they mention any complaints? Does the facility offer all the services and amenities that would make your life there comfortable? If they’re pet-friendly, do they have accommodations for your pet, like a dog park or a washing station? In the end, if you don’t think a certain retirement community is the right fit for you, don’t be afraid to walk away and look elsewhere!
