Boomers: Let Go & Live!

There are many meanings to the term “letting go.” In one sense, it means releasing some thought, feeling, or memory that’s detrimental to our emotional well-being. Sometimes, we Boomers have to let go of people, habits, and even places in order to improve our mental, emotional, and spiritual health. We let go of our children as they leave the nest. We let go of jobs, family ties, and friends. Sometimes, it’s easy; other times, it’s excruciating. Such is life.

Letting go can be both exciting and painful. It can be an ending that can lead to a new beginning. The adventure of a lifetime. Letting go can free us in the present and allow us to step toward a brighter future. It allows us the freedom to experience new ways of thinking. Letting go can make room in our mind for new thoughts, ideas, and possibilities. It opens our hearts to others.

Earlier in my life, I used to say, “I am tired of letting go.” At that time, letting go meant loss. However, I’ve since realized that letting go can lead to peace, joy, and maturity. As Boomers, we may be learning to become grandparents.  We let go of old ways and allow our grown children to be in charge. Other Boomers may be in the process of allowing those grown children to become the adults and face responsibility.

“Last night I lost the world, and gained the universe.” -C. JoyBell C.

Life if full of letting go, but the important thing is to remember that every ending is a beginning. As one chapter ends, another begins.  Nothing is forever. We Boomers must continue letting go. Free yourselves of expectations and unfulfilled dreams. Let go of fear and replace it with faith. Try it today. Let go and LIVE!
