Plus, it’s beyond important to find a good, reputable nursing home, one where you can feel safe, well taken care of, and happy. The good news? So, without further ado, here are our top 7 choices and all the reasons why they made our list!

Our research process:

  1. We start our quest on Google, where we find the nursing homes with the best reviews and highest ratings. We typically compile all our potential choices into a Word document, then go to their websites to do a bit more research. We try to figure out what sets them apart from others on our list. Do they offer long-term care? Rehab? What sort of activities can residents enjoy? Are they Medicare/Medicaid-certified?
  2. After we finish checking out their website, we circle back around to Google to read some reviews. We take every opinion into account, both the flattering and the not-so-flattering. If someone mentions a serious issue, like less-than-pristine living conditions or rude staff members, we take their concerns very seriously. We also cross-reference reviews across other platforms, like Yelp. And, of course, we also check out every nursing home’s rating on U.S. News & World Report.
  3. Finally, we finish our deep dive by checking every nursing home’s social media pages. Typically, this includes Facebook and Instagram, though we also like to watch their YouTube channels if they have one! We also link their YouTube videos below so our readers can get a firsthand look at every facility.

Author’s note: While we LOVE doing research and helping seniors, we also strongly encourage all our readers to do their own research and visit each of these nursing homes in person. Remember, testimonials and reviews paint only half of the picture. So, schedule an in-person visit if possible. Once you’re there, take your time and ask yourself some important questions. Does the community seem safe? Is it clean? Is the staff kind and professional? Are they able to answer all your questions, and do they seem happy or reluctant to do so? Do the residents seem happy? If you talked to them, did they mention any complaints? Does the facility offer all the services and amenities that would make your life there comfortable? Be sure to ask some questions out loud, too! In the end, if you don’t think a certain nursing home is the right fit for you, don’t be afraid to walk away and look elsewhere. Your gut knows better than any Google review or YouTube video!
