After all, if you’re going to go through the hassle of putting your house on the market and packing all your things, you need to make sure you choose the perfect retirement community for you! Our research process:
- Our search starts where most internet searches do: on Google. We begin by finding the retirement communities with the highest ratings and the most reviews. Once we’ve found some solid candidates, we visit their websites and gather as much information as possible. Are they an independent living community? A CCRC (a Continuing Care Retirement Community)? Do they welcome pets or just humans? Are they close to any major hospitals, restaurants, or shopping outlets? What sort of amenities can residents enjoy within the community?
- After we finish answering all those questions, we go back to Google to read some reviews! We don’t just skim the good reviews and call it a day. We read the negative ones, too! We also check out a community’s rating on other platforms, namely Yelp.
- And finally, we check out every community’s online presence on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. If they have a YouTube channel, we always watch their videos and link them in our article so you can watch them, too!
Author’s note: While we LOVE doing research and helping seniors, we also strongly encourage all our readers to do their own research and visit each of these communities in person. Remember: testimonials and reviews paint only half the picture. So, schedule an in-person visit if possible. Once you’re there, take your time and ask yourself some important questions. Does the community seem safe? Clean? Well-maintained? What’s the atmosphere like? The staff? Do the residents seem happy? Are there a lot of things to do in the way of entertainment? Does it have a pool? A dog park? All the things you’re looking for? In the end, if you don’t think a certain retirement community is the right fit for you, don’t be afraid to walk away and look elsewhere!
