Tips for Taking the Stress Out of Medicare Annual Enrollment

Stress is running rampant this Medicare Annual Enrollment season because of the economic stress that America is currently experiencing. Many are concerned that they
could lose their jobs, or worse, not have enough money for retirement. The good news is there’s no law that says you must make a change to your Medicare plan during Annual Enrollment! Of course, I would recommend that you check your Part D plan for any significant changes and adjust accordingly!

If you’re new to Medicare, here are a few tips to simplify Annual Enrollment.

Medicare Annual Enrollment Tips

Tip 1: Learn your Medicare Alphabet Soup.

Part A is hospital coverage. Part B is for medical/outpatient coverage such as doctor visits and surgery. Part C is Medicare Advantage plans that combine both Parts A and B, and sometimes, Part D. Part D is for prescription drugs.

Tip 2: Know what Original Medicare covers and what it doesn’t.

Know what your Part A deductible is. Part B pays 80% of approved charges while you pay 20% and a one per year deductible with a monthly premium that depends on your income.

Tip 3: Remember, not all Medicare plans are created equal.

Medicare Suppletments work directly with Original Medicare, whereas Advantage plans work with low or no premiums and different out-of-pocket costs. Do your research, especially if you have health issues and require expensive brandname prescriptions.

Tip 4: Research Part D plans during EVERY Medicare Annual Enrollment.

Plans can change benefits and the drug formulary for the next year.

Tip 5: Don’t choose based solely on cost.

Make sure there are not any hidden copasys or other fees that will end up costing you money. When someone visits the Tony Says Medicare team to personalize their Medicare situation, we tell them to gorget everything they know about their old employer or individual health plans because Original Medicare is different.
